Less is more?!

오늘 할 이야기는 바로 모더니즘을 대표하는 말이죠!! 

Today we are going to talk about the phrase respresenting Modernism. 

바로!! 

Less is more! 

이 표현은 1855년 시에서 처음 사용이 된 표현입니다. 

This phrase first appeared in a poem in 1855. 

그리고 향후, 일반적으로 건축, 가구등의 디자인에서 많이 인용되어 사용되었죠! 

it has been used in the field of architecture and furniture designs ever since. 

위 표현은 simplicity (단순함), 그리고 clarity(명료함)를 강조하는 표현으로 아래 표현을 보시면 이해가 빠르실 듯 합니다. 

And it's telling you simplicity and clarity is critical. Let's take a look at the sentence below, which help you understand the phrase better. 

The notion that simplicity and clarity lead to good design.

"단순함과 명료성이 좋은 디자인으로 이어진다는 말입니다."

 2015년 6월 평가원모의고사에서 위 내용이 쓰였습다. 

The true champion recognizes that excellence often flows from smoothly from simplicity, a fact that can get lost in these high-tech days. 

(요즘같이 첨단 기술의 시대에서 잊혀지고 있는 단순함이라는 것! 바로 이 단순함에서 탁월함이 나온다는 말입니다.) 

지나치게 외부 기기 (pulse meter, pace keeper 등)에 의존하며 실제로 운동은 덜 하게 된다. 하지만 Abebe Bikila와 같은 마라톤 선수는 맨발로 뛰어 1960년 올림픽에서 금메달을 목에 걸었다. 단순히 열심히 달리는데(운동) 시간을 더 많이 쓰면서 탁월함을 높인 경우다.   

Less is more!

어떻게~! 의미가 다가 오셨나요?
